Maca Recovery Smoothie

I want to just say, this smoothie is good at any stage in your life, but it was a perfect blend for me in my early postpartum days. I craved it as soon as I woke up. For that reason, I'm going to highlight some of the benefits of this nourishing drink, as it pertains to women in the postpartum stage of their life. But hey, its super tasty, and full of creamy goodness, so this smoothie can meet you where you're at!

A few important details I look for in a postpartum snack/meal:


Magnesium: A co-factor for over 300 enzymatic reactions in the body. Most women don't consume enough, especially nursing women in the postpartum period. Our Mighty Maca powder contains cacao, a beautiful source of magnesium.

Calcium: We all know how important calcium is for the strength of our bones. Once a momma is breastfeeding, her body breaks down her own calcium stores in order to ensure there is enough in the breastmilk; so supplementing and consuming enough calcium rich foods is extremely important. If you typically tolerate dairy well, in the early days of postpartum it can be tough on your digestive system so opting for plant-based options can be extremely helpful. Tahini and raw cacao powder are wonderful plant-based sources of calcium.

Fat & Protein:

Fats are crucial for helping to provide energy, balance blood sugar and hormones, and for aiding the body in nutrient absorption. Proteins also provide energy, and help our bodies build and maintain structural function of cells, tissues and organs. We've added protein to this beautiful drink with our Mighty Maca powder, made from cold-pressed hemp protein powder, and all the good fat from 1/2 an organic avocado. 

Stress & Balance:

Adaptogens: Our Mighty Maca powder is a rich source of folate and important vitamins and minerals. It is most commonly used in support of fertility due to its hormone regulating effects. Thus, Maca is a great addition to a postpartum diet for balancing those fluctuating hormones. Maca also contains gentle adaptogenic properties, helping our bodies adapt to stressors in our life. That paired with reishi mushroom, make this one chilled out drink.

To make:

1/2 avocado

1.5 tbsp Mighty Maca

1 cup cashew milk

1 cup coconut water

1 tbsp tahini

2-3 dates (pitted)

4-5 ice cubes

Add all ingredients into a blender, blend and serve.
